Sticky pads, screws or a holder?

The last step in a plate design deserves the same attention as the lettering. Choose a fixing method that suits the vehicle and the surface where the plate will sit.

Sticky pads: check the surface

The builder offers five sticky pads per plate. Adhesive fixings depend on the surface being suitable, clean and dry. Follow the supplied fitting instructions, including any guidance about temperature and how long the adhesive needs to bond.

Remove old adhesive and residue using a method suitable for the vehicle surface. Do not assume a pad will hold securely over dirt, loose material or an uneven mounting area.

Screws: check the mounting points

If the vehicle already has suitable fixing points, a screw kit may suit its mounting arrangement. Check the vehicle instructions and the position of the existing holes before making changes.

Drilling through a plate can cause damage or allow water in. Read the warranty policy before choosing this method, and get fitting help if you are unsure. A warranty exclusion does not remove statutory consumer rights.

The plain black holder

The holder frames a standard oblong plate and has a deeper lower lip. It is offered when all selected plates are Standard Oblong; a pair uses a holder at each end.

Choose it in the builder, then turn the preview to inspect the slotted back. The Plateforged holder option is plain, with no personalised wording or colour choice.

Before you finish

  • Check that the fixing method suits your vehicle.
  • Follow the instructions supplied with the fixing product.
  • Make sure the plate is secure and the registration remains unobstructed.
  • If reusing fixings, check their condition and suitability.
