The rounded look of 3D Gel
3D Gel lettering has a smooth, curved face. Light catches the rounded surface, giving the black digits a glossy appearance. There is no flat acrylic face at the top of the character.
If you want raised lettering with a softer outline, start by trying 3D Gel. Use the same registration and plate size while you compare styles, so the finish is the only thing changing.
The defined profile of 4D Acrylic
Acrylic lettering has a flat face and straight edges. The builder offers 3mm and 5mm versions: these refer to the acrylic depth. The 5mm option gives a more pronounced profile than the 3mm version.
Try the angled preview as well as the front view. From directly ahead, the difference in depth can be less obvious; an angle helps you see the side of the lettering.
Prefer a bit of both?
4D Gel combines an acrylic base with a rounded gel top. Its 3mm and 5mm choices refer to the acrylic base beneath that gel surface. It is a separate finish from both plain acrylic and 3D Gel.
Retro is another option if you like an angular look: its bevelled edges give the characters a faceted outline. Our finish comparison puts all five lettering families together.
Compare using your own registration
- Enter your registration and choose a front, rear or pair.
- Keep the plate sizes the same while comparing lettering.
- Turn the preview and check the profile.
- Add badges, a border and fixings after choosing the finish.
The preview illustrates your choices. Photographs and screen lighting can make gloss and depth look different, so compare the close-up image alongside the rendered design.
